Reputation Management in Contemporary Policy Debates
Reputation management has become more complicated because of new Internet realities and practices. The contemporary media environment is conducive to the spread of negativity and misinformation in public discourse. Social media normalize subversive rhetoric and personal attacks in political discourse regarding central issues in public policy (health care, climate change, etc). It has become more difficult for individuals and organizations to manage reputation and legitimacy in this toxic environment. This presentation will address an effective way to counter reputational crises, whether it be scientific arguments or attacks on individuals or organizations, through pre-emptive inoculation. Several new inoculation methods will be discussed in the context of several recent case studies.
Presentation is available remotely/virtually.
